Almond Blossom Festival-
There are plenty of community events all year long in Ripon, however the main attraction is the Almond Blossom Festival. Celebrated in late February, children and even adults anxiously await these festivities all year long. The fun includes a pageant for “Miss Ripon” (available to high school junior girls), a parade, a carnival, and much more.
The Miss Ripon competition is something young girls dream of doing the years leading up to the time they can finally compete. The competition showcases the talents and uniqueness of the many “Almond Blossom Princesses” prior to the choice of the queen, Miss Ripon. She is picked based on multiple factors, such as selling raffle tickets, community volunteer work, and giving a speech. Miss Ripon is announced on the Thursday of Almond Blossom week, and she, as well as all the princesses, are included in the parade on that Sunday, concluding the festival.
Hosted at Mistlin Sports Park, the carnival is the perfect place to go for family fun! It includes the usual carnival rides and booths as well as a section for local vendors and businesses. With large grassy fields, rides, and a playground for the kids, live music for the adults, and great food all the way around, there is truly something for everyone. The carnival starts Thursday and goes until Sunday, and is also an attraction to people in neighboring cities. As the festival has gotten more popular over the years, the attendance has grown monumentally. However, lines are well worth a great day with family and friends!
Almond Blossom is a time when the community comes together, sharing in the excitement of the season, making memories, and giving back. The Almond Blossom Parade on Sunday draws the week of fun to a close with one last activity. The parade showcases all that Ripon has to offer, great programs, great businesses, and extraordinary people. We strongly encourage that you join us and plant your roots in this little city!
